Area: A = π a b
Perimeter: P ≈ π [3(a + b) − √((3a + b)(a + 3b))]
A = π × 6 × 4 = 75.3982 P ≈ π [3(6 + 4) − √((3×6 + 4)(6 + 3×4))] = 31.7309
Values in feet; areas in sq ft.
About the ellipse (oval)
An oval. The area is exact; the perimeter has no simple exact formula, so this uses Ramanujan's approximation, which is within a few millionths for everyday ovals.
Every formula on this site is explained step by step in Learn: area and perimeter.
